Lesson 192: How Does Group Thought Create...

Today is thinking about how group thought can create cult thought. Notice today if you agree with something if it’s the group thought that has swayed your choice or if it’s your ultimate true self responding.

When I have a good think about this, I realised that you can really drive yourself crazy over analysing the fact that what you perceive to be true might just be the way you’re conditioned into thinking something is in fact true. I think if you’re more of an open person and go and educate yourself on topics, or just go about life to learn and become more knowledgeable, then you can differentiate what your true values are. I think we’re all taught in certain ways of right and wrong through school and through parents. There is nothing wrong with this as we all need some form of foundation to build our outlook of the world. I think as we grow older, it’s that choice we need to make for ourselves to really understand ourselves and where we stand, in order to understand how others live. It’s not always an easy task when you get set in your own values sometimes.

Anyway, back to today’s lesson. I didn’t do much except for work and watch Smallville and Westworld. The only thing I agreed with on a group thought was that the New Zealand prime minister is an amazing woman. What I admire about her is that she’s had a baby without being married to her partner, she has given birth during whilst in power, she’s enacted bills to change the livelihood of parents, her baby’s name incorporates Maori culture which she asked local tribes to submit suggestions for and she’s really for the people. I think a lot of people really admire her as a leader. I think for me, it’s a true feeling as well as a group thought because she has values I have. I like that she’s like a regular person but in power. It’s when someone understands the struggle of their people that really resonates with me as an individual. I like people in power who can connect with their people in that way rather than just going about their political party’s agenda.

What did you find today which was a real true thought of yours and not just the group thought?

Lesson 189: The Group Energy in Electronica Leads to...

When we use our online tools such as social media, there are times when we tap into a group energy because those people’s beliefs align with yours, or you go against the group thought and risk the opposing group view. In most part, you will most likely go with group thought as you would have most likely aligned yourself to groups and pages that you already like.  Today we are to think about how group thought impacts the way you are or if you more inclined to be your true self.

When it comes to certain interests of mine, I find that I am with the group thought in terms of our mentality. I find that my Facebook groups are exactly what I seek out and the general feeling of the group’s thought is quite similar to my own. Sure, we can have discussions that opens up different views but we have more common thought than not. I mean, why would you seek out groups or pages that didn’t really resonate with you?

I find that I am my true self most of the time. Those moments when I have opposing views are on news stories, things that pop up in my feed that may hurt others and when people don’t understand different aspects of spirituality. I do find that I like reading other people’s comments to gain some perspective of opinions. I tend to disagree with those people who try and force their beliefs onto others. Everyone has a opinion but it doesn’t mean you should try to convince someone to follow your view.

So, I guess I can be both – follow group thought whilst being myself and also not following group thought whilst still being myself. Where do you fit in?

Lesson 187: In This World of Electronica...

In a world of social media, it’s easy to hide our true selves. We can wear a mask if we so choose because it’s easy. Even though the internet has provided a way of connecting, do you feel that the connections are true and are useful for you?

I personally feel that it’s easy for some to hide behind a computer screen when it comes to social media. I think it’s caused an avenue for more bullying and people to just be mean in general. I do find that social media also distracts people from truly doing useful activities. I am a culprit of wasting time on social media because it doesn’t take brain power, and sometimes I feel I need something mind numbing when it’s been a tough day.

I do find social media has helped me connect with more people like me though. Without it, I wouldn’t have found the people I needed to on my spiritual path. I like social media for that aspect. The connections I can find locally and internationally have really benefited my life and I do feel like those connections are true and solid. I actually wouldn’t have met my mentors if I didn’t have social media. I truly believe without it, I would be lost as to where to get the guidance I truly needed.

So overall, I value social media for opening the avenues to the people I needed on my path. Without it, I may have been just as lost like when I was a teenager and didn’t know what to do with my life. I see the friendships I’ve discovered as utmost importance and value. How about you?

Day 103 - A Year to Clear - Your Best Self

Lesson 103: Your Best Self

It’s simple. Your life is how you see it. No one can beat you at being you.
— Joel Osteen

Today we are to write down all the words that describe our best self.  From there, focus attention to t for the day and without any apology.

My words:

·         Energetic

·         Unapologetic

·         Lively

·         Caring

·         Friendly

·         Nice

·         Patient

·         Loving

·         Adventurous

·         Fearless

·         Unworried

·         Empowered

·         Creative

·         Strong

·         Enriched

·         Enthusiastic

·         Fulfilled

There are probably a lot more words but then I feel they would be much of the same as the above. Today I will focus on being more energetic since I’ve felt drained 1 week ago. I was using a clear quartz crystal to do this for me this week and I felt good. I forgot to put it on today so I am on my own.

I will feed off the energy of the sun and just be my best self. It has actually made me wonder why we don’t just live the best versions of ourselves all the time. Maybe that is the lesson. Nothing stopping us from being all these things we want to be!

Day 41 - A Year of Spiritual Awakening - You are meant to enjoy...

Lesson 41: You are meant to enjoy...

We are meant to enjoy our “core self”. In life at one time or another we’ll do what we think is healthy in fitting in, competing others and trying to be “better”. But is this true to our “core self”? I definitely was always an outsider growing up in a predominantly white community in one of the few Asian families that lived there. I was always different and wanted to fit in. I feel that from childhood, this has heavily influenced my dealings with people as a teenager and adult, as I always felt this need to fit in. I always wanted to be in the cool crowd. I always acted like I had money, when in fact, my mother was a single mum and we were not rich, and there were times mum struggled. I always sort of hid that from everyone because I felt like being poor made me insubordinate in some way. I thought richer meant that I was better. The way our minds work hey?

Saturday’s lesson goes through letting go of any of this type of thinking. We need to exist as we truly are in this lifetime. I am to list those I think are “better” than me, as we as list who I think am “better” than. Then I am to ask myself how do these beliefs serve me and how can these beliefs be real.

So I’ve learned through my own awakening that I am no better than anyone, nor them over me, as well as I am no less than someone, nor them to me. When you start to journey through your own spirituality, you start to learn that we are all equal as humans and we shouldn’t treat someone above or less than ourselves. I can’t tell you the exact moment I started to think this in this way. It is a very enlightened way of thinking and a natural flow on the path I decided to take. I honestly think it was when I got to look after elephants and help out a village in Thailand. Seeing how other people lived in a true sense of community, without any of the worries we have in western world was definitely an eye opening experience. It was part of the reason why I started to think I want to help the world on a larger scale one day…. Well that’s the plan anyway. I want to be able to end the homeless problem in Australia as well. It’s odd, I used to see homeless people as dirty and less than me. It actually makes me sick typing that. Like, who the fuck am I to actually ever think that way? When you can actually recognise that we are all human and some need a little bit more help than others, it really makes you re-evaluate what you tend to under appreciate in your life.

Anyway, if you’re reading this, have a think about when you’ve thought someone was better than you or if you’ve thought you’re better than people. We need to exist in ourselves and know that our path is our own. We shouldn’t compare ourselves to each other. We need to start seeing each other as equal no matter what the circumstance.
